MJ1 Drama Club: “Aesop’s Fables

Thank you for your interest in this year’s Drama Club production of “Aesop’s Fables” directed by Ms. Kafka Duda with assistant direction by Ms. Straubhaar! This show is an exciting opportunity for actors in grades 5-8 of all levels, and casting will be flexible in terms of male and female roles. This show is not a musical but does include the opportunity for two actors to sing if we find the right kids for the parts.  Because we will be bringing Aesop’s animal characters to life, this show will also feature some exciting and challenging body and voice acting. No preparation for auditions is required!

Auditions are on Tuesday, January 21 from 3:30-5:00 in the multipurpose room. Please be on time for auditions! Bring a snack or water if you need it. You must have your signed Drama Club Agreement (other side of this sheet) before you may audition. You do not need to have a prepared monologue. We will hold auditions beginning with fun acting exercises to warm up and get comfortable with each other. We will then call up actors to perform short scenes in what we would consider cold readings. This means you will not have had the chance to read or practice ahead of time. As directors, we will be looking for bold choices on stage -- do you use your whole body, your whole voice, and your whole imagination? Note that not all students who audition will be cast in the show - we are looking for only 6-14 dedicated actors! Participation in the past is not a guarantee of participation this year.  The directors will take the level of commitment to the Drama Club Agreement from previous years into account! Casting is based not only on the audition, but also attitude, self-control, and responsibility. Actors can not audition unless they and a parent/guardian sign and return the Drama Club Agreement on the following page. Roles will be posted no later than Thursday, January 23.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, January 27. Rehearsals will take place every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (excluding district days off such as inservice or snow days) from 3:30-5:00 until the shows on February 26th and 27th. Our final dress rehearsal will be Tuesday, February 25th, which may require us to run a little later than 5:00. Parents will be notified in advance of any time changes. Look for more details on performance days and times to come.  We will strike the set immediately after the performance, and attendance for strike is mandatory. Please keep this page for date references.

Looking forward to a great show!

Ms. Kafka Duda and Ms. Straubhaar
