Important Educational Update
from Minocqua J1 School District 10/20/20
October 20, 2020

Dear Minocqua J1 Families,

This communication is to regretfully inform you that due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, related close contacts, and a shortage of available substitute teachers, the District does not have the capacity to safely or effectively provide in-person instruction at this time. The District will move to Virtual Learning beginning Thursday, October 22nd and continue through Friday, October 30th. It is our goal to resume in-person instruction on Monday, November 2nd. We knew this year was going to be a challenge with COVID, but our end goal is to try to provide as much safe in-person instruction as possible throughout the school year. Hopefully, this pause gives everyone a chance to be healthy and gives us the opportunity to return to as normal as possible with in person instruction. During this time, the District will provide the following:

The District will provide free breakfast and lunches to families. Three days of meals can be picked up on Monday, October 26 and four days of meals can be picked up on Thursday, October 29. Please email the district at mealorder@mhlt.org by 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 22 to request meals. We will distribute the meals at school from 9:00am-12:00pm from the cafeteria doors.

Students will bring home their chromebooks on Wednesday, October 21st. If they are not able to bring them home, they will be available for pick up outside the main office during normal school hours.

The school does have a limited number of MiFi’s available for those families that do not have internet access. Please contact Jay Christgau at 715-356-5206 X 2130.

Teachers will provide live virtual instruction from their classrooms each day. It is expected that students are able to log on through the class google classroom.

Homeroom teachers will provide the daily schedule of times when the classes will meet virtually on google meets.

The school will go through an intense deep cleaning of the entire building.

This move to virtual learning does not affect our students who are already in remote home learning.

This decision has been carefully considered and not made lightly given the inconvenience and disruption we know this will cause students and families. We will actively monitor this situation and will continue to provide you with updates as needed. Thank you in advance for your support for the safety of all our students, teachers, and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Ellis
